STRESS WHAT IS IT – HOW IT EFFECTS US – WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT.
The Stress management Society defines stress as ‘a situation where demands on a person exceed that person’s resources or ability to cope’
Pressure itself is not bad. In fact many people thrive on it. But when those pressures exceed a person’s ability to cope that is when the problems start.
It makes sense then that we tackle stress by reducing pressures or increasing our coping strategies – or perhaps a combination of the two.
What is Stress?
Stress is caused by 2 things. If you think situations you are facing are worthy of anxiety, then it is down to how your body reacts to your thought process.
The instinctive stress response is known as ‘Fight or Flight’ first noted in 1932 by Walter Cannon one of the earliest pioneers in stress research. He established that when an organism perceives see a threat or experiences a shock, it quickly releases hormones to help it survive.
These hormones help us run faster or fight harder; they increase heart rate and blood pressure, delivering more oxygen and blood sugar to power important muscles.
If stress goes unrelieved there is a perpetual release of flight or fight hormones – adrenaline and cortisol which in time affect the mind and body like a constant drizzle of acid. The more prolonged the tension the greater amounts of these hormones are produced. This disrupts the way we thinkand feel and has a damaging effect on our bodies and our lives in general.
It is now well established that the more stressed we are the less likely we are to be able to feel balanced and in harmony and cope well with our live situations, the less likely we are to feel happy and to be able to communicate well with other people – everything suffers., work, home life, friendships…..
Today we live in a word where there is a constant underlying threat – Fear is being generated via the media continually – Terrorism – job loss – financial collapse – 2012 good/bad who knows?
We are in a perpetual state of ‘Flight or Fight’ producing damaging amounts of hormones and may feel unable to do anything about our situations.
THE RADIANCE TECHNIQUE
The Radiance Technique or TRT is a method of balancing energies flowing through the body which enables one to feel more centred and in harmony with surroundings therefore ‘quietening anxious thoughts’ and reducing stress in the body ‘This was my experience of TRT during a prolonged stressful situation working and looking after an elderly parent’ I was finding the things I had to cope with overwhelming after 1 session of TRT I felt grounded and was actually smiling – after 2 sessions I felt balanced and able to cope with what was happening in my life.
Because of this experience I chose to learn the technique in order to help others experience the joy and relief that I had felt.
The Radiance Technique is registered by Radiance Stress Management International as Authentic Rei Ki.
